Sweden's Gentle Giant (coming soon)

A delightful biographical picture book about Jons Abrahamsson (otherwise known as Puttetorpa Here or Sweden's Gentle Giant), that will appeal to adults and children alike.  

Jöns Abrahamsson was born June 27, 1791, on his father’s farm, near Västra Torsås, a small village in Småland in southern Sweden. The farm was called Puttetorp, and at the time, Here was a word meaning “boy.” So, the locals somewhat jokingly called Jöns Puttetorpa Here, the “boy from Puttetorp.” He grew until he was a giant of a man with enormous size and strength. And even during his lifetime, he became famous far beyond his rural community, beyond Småland, and throughout all of Sweden.

Of course, it is difficult, if not impossible, to know for certain which of the stories about Jons Abrahamsson, Puttetorpa Here, might be true, which are somewhat exaggerated, and which are simply legend. But, it is very likely that all were based on actual events. News traveled very slowly in the early 1800s. However, even during his lifetime, Jons was known throughout Sweden as the giant Puttetorpa Here. He was famous for his enormous size and feats of great strength.

Jons was also known to the locals for his strong character. He did not seek attention. He was content to be a good man, a husband, a father, and a hard-working farmer. Today, his fame continues to endure, and he is still respectfully remembered as . . . SWEDEN’S GENTLE GIANT.
