Description

Why Kings and Queens Don't Wear Crowns is Princess Märtha Louise's own story about King Haakon, Queen Maud and little Prince Olav who came to Norway 100 years ago to become the new Norwegian Royal Family. When little Prince Olav and his family arrive in Norway from Denmark, the little prince wants to do the same things as other Norwegian children. It soon becomes apparent, however, that building snowmen, sledding, and skiing are difficult to do while wearing a crown! What's a little prince to do? This amusing tale is made even more enjoyable by the delightfully witty illustrations of Norwegian artist Svein Nyhus.

On the CD that comes with the book, Princess Märtha Louise herself tells why she wrote the book and then reads the entire book with interpretive musical accompaniment. The original score of the CD was written by Arlin D. Snesrud and Leonard "Skeets" Langley (former World Champion Accordionist!). The ten-piece orchestra also includes Steinar Ofsdal from Norway, who plays a variety of flutes and Norway's national instrument, the Hardanger violin. All ages will enjoy this tale, especially ages 5-95. Hardcover book with Audio CD.
