Tove Jansson was a successful Swedish-speaking writer, artist, and cartoonist from Finland. She was most known for her comic strips and series of children’s books featuring the hippopotamus-like Moomin characters. She received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1996 for her contribution as a children’s writer.
